What is a Funnel Cake?
- This traditional dessert is popularly served at funfairs such an Canada’s Wonderland and restaurants like Montana’s Cook House
- It is known for it’s delicious crispy doughy goodness combined with the freshness of strawberries and sweetness of vanilla ice cream
- It is called a funnel cake because “funnel” is used as a method to pour the batter in to the oil
The Ingredients
- The basic ingredients of a funnel cake are as follows:
- 1 egg
- ¾ of milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Cooking oil 500ml (preferably canola)
*These ingredients serves 3 medium sized plates*
The Toppings
- Toppings include, but are not limited to:
- Icing Sugar
- Fresh strawberries and blue berries
- Strawberry, caramel or chocolate sauce
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Sliced almonds or crushed peanuts
