Lea's Holiday Cinnamon Bun Recipe


For the dough

  • 1 egg
  • 1 2/3 cups milk
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 4 heaping tsp baking powder

For the filling

  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 5 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • Add nuts if desired!


  1. Preheat oven to 425ºf.
  2. In one bowl: sift flour, salt, and baking powder. Add sugar, and cut in shortening to mixture.
  3. In a seperate bowl: beat egg with first cup of milk, then add to dry ingredients with the rest of the milk. Roll dough on floured surface, and spread cinnamon filling on top of the dough.
  4. Roll and cut dough about an inch thick. Place on pan about an inch apart and bake at 425ºf for 14 – 17 minutes. *Check around 14 minutes to make sure they aren’t burning.
